Main functions
Main functions

CRAWLING

  • A discovery function essential to archiving: discovering and crawling a portal or any pages
  • The Archivator can crawl the entire destination portal from just a single starting URL, of course, along publicly accessible URLs only.

ARCHIVING

  • Provides storage and access to downloaded materials.
  • The saved page will appear exactly as it was when it was archived.
  • Archived material can be stored virtually anywhere, subject to storage quotas.
  • Archiving is domain specific. Of course, it is possible to archive multiple domains at the same time, but each domain is a separate archive. Only HTML pages that come from the given domain are saved. Subdomains can be disabled; this restriction does not apply to external scripts, images, and other resources.

ARCHIVE BROWSING

  • When you archive, your saved files are kept in such a way that they can be displayed at any time later in their original form.
  • You can browse and search in the usual chart or calendar format.
  • When viewing archived pages, you can see two versions of the same page, making comparison much simpler.
  • You can filter by different content types such as URLs, etc., in a page/file grouping of an archive. For example, an archived pdf file is downloaded appearing exactly the same as if it had been viewed in its original form.

DETECTING DIFFERENCES

  • If you wish, the text on the pages will be saved separately (in addition) by the Archivator during the archiving process.
  • For information stored in this separately dedicated database, keyword search (ElasticSearch) among the grouped, daily content produces fast results; moreover, it weighs the results accordingly.
  • You can filter the altered content separately in another complete table.

TIMING/MONITORING

  • A given domain can be archived within two days. The second day only occurs when a problem is encountered in the first.
  • The schedule of archivating can be initiated regularly daily, weekly, on a given day, or monthly on a given date.
  • You can check the status of the archive on the appropriate platform.
